We bin digging for Honey Ants out West!

Two wonderful Elders and a group of Western Arrernte children took Nana Honey Ant (HARs author, Margaret James) and 2 dedicated young  tutors, Joe (plus camera and shovel) and Amber (plus water and food), out hunting and digging for honey ants and witchetty grubs west of Alice Springs . They were filming for Margaret’s presentation at the State Library conference in Brisbane on the 24th of May. Dulcie found the most perfect, fat and white witchetty grub in the root of a tree, still in its tunnel, and Jennifer educated us about nature and tradition ways of searching for bush tukka (food) and bush medicine. The children returned home with plenty of fat, yellow, orange and brown honey ants to share with their friends!

Margaret will be keynote speaker at the State Library of Queensland’s Expanding Horizons Family Literacy Forum on 24th May and will be delivering a PD workshop at their Expanding Horizons Family/Early Literacy Professional Development Day on 25th May.
