Jennifer, Marg and Marjorie presented at the Puliima Conference in Melbourne last week. Their talk, “From Dreamtime to reading-time: Strong first language and culture supports strong reading. ” was well attended and they received really positive feedback from participants.

Jennifer talked about stories being passed down by her mother who learnt them from her grandmother who learnt them from HER grandmother, and so on for generations back. Amongst the many insightful things in her speech, Jennifer said: “My mother wants to use her stories to make them into books, so that it’s easy for them mob kids to read and understand the words. She wants to tell the stories so that kids be aware of danger at night, in the day or when they are travelling.”
