Another wonderful trip to Tiwi College

Marg was thrilled to return to the very special, fabulous school, Tiwi College earlier this month to deliver a full day workshop on ESL and visit the wonderful students in their classes.

Set in the stunning setting of the Tiwi Islands, this primary school has come a long way since it first started in the 1980s. Now it has 68 secondary and 14 primary school students with almost 80% attendance rates (see this article for more about http://m.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/tiwi-school-on-a-promising-trajectory/story-e6frg6nf-1226710938017).

Seeing what it's like being a student in a class where you don't understand the language! Lots of fun was had by all as Marg gave all instructions in Afrikaans. We sung 'Nana walk' in Afrikaans and then formed sentences to match. Conclusion? How much easier reading is once you understand the words orally!
