Honey Ant Readers take Centre Stage in Middle School.
Middle school students have become translators of the HAR series. With Western and Central Arrernte, as well as Luritja and Pitjantjatjara language groups in the class, students have commenced translating the first 5 books of the HAR series. As students become intimately involved with the text of each HAR book they have discovered that there are some distinct differences in the way each language organises itself. For example in HAR Book 1: The English text is: ‘ant in red sand’. The western Arrernte text is: ‘yerrammpe arne thetheke’. The discovery of these differences between different languages has seen some wonderful discussion about benefits of being able to speak more than one language.”
