HAR Launch in Shepparton with the Hon. Jeanette Powell

In her speech at the HAR launch in Shepparton, the Hon. Jeanette Powell, Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal affairs, was very enthusiastic about the HAR resources and congratulated us on what they are achieving for Aboriginal literacy.

Marg spoke about the common threads through traditional stories across the country, how important it is for Aboriginal children to have reading material that comes from community and is about themselves, and how the HAR began. She concluded that there is still a lack of understanding about Aboriginal cultures and languages, and with that a lack of respect and recognition – particularly with Aboriginal English.
