‘run nana’ repeats the 7 words introduced in Book 1, ‘nana dig’ and develops confidence in reading through repetition. One new word is introduced, another ‘phonic’ word – ‘yum’. This story describes Nana digging in the red sand, looking for honey ants. There is a rhyme to reinforce the vocabulary and decoding, ‘Nana Digs in the Sand with her Hand’ and the song, ‘Oh Where, Oh Where?’ is a bit of fun about looking for honey ants. ‘Where can they be?’ Ask Nana and the child, standing on top of the tunnels which are full of honey ants! Both are in Standard Australian English (SAE) – and are written to teach SAE.
